For timber flooring installers

Measure timber jobs without re-counting boards three times

Solid, engineered and parquetry each waste differently. Get per-room area with realistic timber wastage, perimeter for scotia, and a clean export your supplier can read.

Timber is the highest-stakes flooring quote on the job: longest install times, biggest material spend, most expensive mistakes. AreaSum gives you defensible numbers per room before the customer signs, so the order to your supplier matches the floor and the offcut bin stays small.

Why timber flooring installers use it

Built for the way you quote

Wastage that respects board direction

Strip timber installed against the long axis of a room wastes less than the same timber on the diagonal or in herringbone. Set per-material wastage and per-room overrides where the install pattern changes.

Per-room area for strip, parquetry and engineered

Each room is its own polygon with its own flooring type. Solid strip in the hallway, engineered in the bedrooms, parquetry in the entry — three line items in one export.

Perimeter for scotia, beading and stair nosings

Timber jobs live and die on the trim. Every room reports linear-metre perimeter so scotia, beading and matching stair nosings are in the order from version one.

Questions, answered

What timber flooring installers ask first

Does AreaSum account for direction of install?

Not as a layout tool — you decide direction on site. But you can set wastage per material and per room, so a herringbone parquetry room with 20 percent wastage and a straight-strip bedroom with 7 percent each get the right figure in the export.

Can I quote sanding and finishing as separate line items?

Yes. The exported report gives you area and perimeter per room and per material. Sand and finish lives in your pricing template — multiply the area by your $/m2 figure and the numbers slot straight in.

How does it handle stair treads and risers?

Each tread can be a small room of its own. For a long staircase you can also measure the total run as one area and add the riser count as a project note. We are open to a dedicated stair-tread calculator if enough installers ask.
